I prepare this used Dell Chromebook 3180 with Linux Mint and a 256GB SanDisk USB system drive. It gives your radio projects a compact computer with a larger system drive, plus the operating system and radio applications already installed.
Your laptop
Dell Chromebook 3180 · Intel Celeron N3060 · 4GB RAM · 11.6-inch display. The original internal eMMC provides additional file storage.
What is included
You receive the laptop, its 256GB SanDisk USB system drive, a new compatible charger and a first-use guide.
Keep the system drive plugged in
Linux Mint and the installed applications run from the supplied USB drive. Leave it inserted while the laptop is on. It is the main system drive, not a spare installer.
Radio software
The Linux setup includes JS8Call, WSJT-X, FLDIGI, FLMSG, FLAMP, HamClock, PAT, CHIRP, FLRIG, SDR++ and YAAC. Your radio, interface and cable still need their own connection, audio and push-to-talk settings. Send me your equipment details if you would like help choosing a kit.
JS8Call is for text messaging using the JS8 mode. FLDIGI brings several supported digital modes into one application. I prepare the laptop software; you still select the audio devices and radio-control/PTT settings for your own station. The guides below explain those connections before you get started.
Choosing this kit
Premium provides a 256GB system drive for more files and applications. Storage capacity does not change the amount of RAM or processor speed.
Used laptop condition
I work with used laptops, so scratches, scuffs and other signs of use may be present. Appearance varies between units. If condition matters for your plans, ask me about the laptop before choosing.
Preparation and shipping
I clean, configure and test each laptop myself. Please allow five business days for preparation before shipment, with carrier transit after that.
